Muay Thai is a highly effective striking martial art that involves the use of fists, elbows, knees, and feet for attacks. Strikes can be thrown from varying ranges - long, mid, or close range. The art also includes an element of grappling called the Thai clinch or standing grappling, which is different from the techniques used in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but can still be used for foot sweeps and throws. Clinching maneuvers are used to set up knee and elbow strikes or to throw an opponent to the ground.
One of the main benefits of learning Muay Thai is that it complements ground fighting with stand-up grappling and striking, making it an excellent addition to a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner's skill set. It also helps kids and adults recognize incoming punches and react with proper counter maneuvers.
Additionally, training in Muay Thai can lead to various physical and mental benefits. Regular training can improve cardiovascular conditioning, increase leg strength, build core strength, improve hip mobility, and reduce stress levels.
